Southampton 2025's Public Launch

Last Wednesday, we publicly launched our bid to be UK City of Culture 2025. The news was shared across many media channels and if you missed it, we’ve gathered everything you need to know below.

We started the day with great weather, great lighting, a great location and a lot of enthusiasm for an early-morning photo shoot.

Our launch video was shared far and wide throughout the day. Made by Solent University's Asten Holmes-Elliott (@astenHE), it received really great feedback:

"We think this video is a great start for #southampton2025" - @chaostogether

"What a great video! Well done @Southampton2025 for getting the City of Culture bid off to a great start" - @aspacearts

We were also delighted to announce our first three ambassadors: Craig David, Shelina Permalloo and Lawrie McMenemy MBE. They recorded short videos explaining what Southampton means to them, and why they're excited to be part of the bid. Grab a cup of tea, and watch their videos.

We featured on BBC Radio Solent and you can still listen to our slot on The Breakfast show. Our (very busy) bid director, Claire Whitaker OBE, also did interviews on BBC South Today, Wave 105, Awaaz Community Radio and the Unity 101 podcast.

Her interview on Unity 101 podcast is available to listen here.

The Southern Daily Echo gave us excellent coverage, we were firmly in the spotlight. We had a print wrap on the newspaper on coffee tables all around Southampton. We had many features, quotes and interviews both printed and online.

Our presence didn't stop there. We also took over digital screens all around Southampton:
